The BEST Education Foundation

This foundation was established to support the students and staff of the Garland Independent School District, which encompasses the north Texas communities of Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse. The foundation is overseen by a 17-member Board of Directors, comprised of a cross-section of the communities served by the Garland ISD. The foundation operates independently, but in cooperation, with the district.

Verizon Funds Pre- K Literacy Initiatives

Representatives from Verizon presented the BEST Education Foundation with a check for $5,000.00 to jump start the literacy initiatives at the District's two Pre-K Centers, Cisneros and Parsons.

The ceremony took place at the Verizon store on Centerville Road and Northerwest Highway, their number one retail center in the U.S. Ceasar Moncada, and David Russell of Verizon presented the check to Helen Dorsey, BEST Board President. "This really is a boost to the wonderful programs that the Pre-K Centers have started to assist in preparing our students for Kindergarten".

GISD Recognizes Teachers of the Year with Texas Rangers

On Friday May 13th the BEST Education Foundation and the Texas Rangers recognized the 2011 Garland I.S.D. Teachers of the Year. A caravan of students, teachers, & staff made their way to the Ballpark in Arlington to cheer on the 2011 Teachers of the Year on a beautiful Friday evening.

The GHS Chamber singers, directed by Mary Jane Thornton performed a tremendous rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. Cliff Odenwald, Associate Director of Athletics threw out the ceremonial first pitch. This is the 6th year that the Texas Rangers and Garland I.S.D.have recognized their teachers with a night of their own.

Ninth Annual BEST Masters Golf Tournament

The Ninth Annual BEST Masters teed up on Friday April 29th at the Firewheel Golf Complex. With the support of the community and our business partners the Foundation was able to raise $18,491.43 for the general scholarship fund for the District.

The weather was beautiful and the camaraderie great while more than 100 golfers showcased their skills. The winning team from Balfour carried off the Trophy Cup for the year and welcomed challengers for next year. The players were treated to lunch from Dos Banderos, and dinner from Outback Steakhouse....video highlights
